Fly Fishing Waitaki
Discovery around every corner

A genuine fly fishing experience along a special river

Considered an off the beaten track fly fishing experience, the Waitaki Catchment covers Lakes Benmore, Aviemore and Waitaki, the imposing Waitaki river, and the Maerewhenua, Ahuriri and Hakataramea rivers.

Before discovering the Waitaki River, I’d fished the great still waters of Blagdon, Chew Valley, Ladybower and Rutland. Enjoyed the chalk stream jewels, Test, Itchen, Nadder and Wylie. And I’d fished for sea trout in Devon and Dorset and caught sea bass in the surf in North Devon. But as far as I’m concerned, the fishing in New Zealand is a singular experience that every keen angler should try at least once.

That’s why I started Fly Fishing Waitaki in early 2015 – to showcase this expansive and abundant yet relatively unknown river to anglers around the world.

Personalised day trips focussed on enjoyment over catch

Join me for a fun and relaxed trip designed to suit your interests and abilities, the weather and river conditions. If you’re reasonably new to fly fishing, I’m happy to teach you a few basic fly fishing techniques. If you want a relaxing day out, let me guide you to the best spots.

I’m an experienced fly fisher, tour guide and mountain biker with over 20 years of tourism experience. From the first email or phone call throughout your trip until your return to Oamaru you will communicate with me directly. I collect you from your accommodation, return you at the end of the day, and everything for a great day out is provided except waders and boots.
